About the Pomodoro timer
Work in one unbroken 25-minute block, then take 5 minutes off. After four blocks, take a longer break. The timer runs the cycle and counts the rounds so you can forget about the clock.
How it works
- Pick one thing to work on and press start.
- Work until the timer rings — no email, no messages.
- Take the 5 minute break away from the screen.
- After four rounds, take the long break of 15 minutes.
Why 25 minutes?
It is long enough to get properly into a task and short enough that starting feels easy. The number matters less than the rule: one block, one task, no interruptions. Change the lengths below if a different rhythm suits you.
What if I am interrupted?
Pause it, deal with the interruption, then resume. If the block is broken up badly, skip to a break and start a fresh one.
Does it keep counting in another tab?
Yes, and the block and time left show in the tab title. Closing the tab or quitting the browser stops it.
Are the breaks really necessary?
They are what makes the method work. The break is when the last block settles and the next one gets its energy; skipping them turns the method back into ordinary uninterrupted work.
