About this egg timer
Tell it the size of your eggs, how many there are, whether they came from the fridge, and how you want the yolk. It works out the boiling time and counts it down for you.
How to use it
- Pick the size and number of eggs, and where they were stored.
- Choose soft, medium or hard.
- Drop the eggs in and press start — the countdown begins.
- When the alarm sounds, lift them out and cool them under cold water.
Should the water already be boiling?
Either works, and the timer adjusts for both. Lowering eggs into water that is already boiling gives a more predictable result; starting in cold water is gentler on the shells.
Why does the number of eggs matter?
More eggs cool the water more when they go in, so the pan takes longer to come back up to temperature. The timer adds a little time for each extra egg.
How do I stop the shells cracking?
Use eggs that are not fridge-cold, lower them in gently on a spoon, and keep the water at a steady simmer rather than a hard boil.
How do I peel them easily?
Cool them in cold water straight away and peel them while still slightly warm. Slightly older eggs peel more cleanly than very fresh ones.
