About this metronome
A steady click at the tempo you set, with the first beat of each bar accented so you can hear where the bar starts. Nothing to install, and the sound is generated in the browser so it stays in time.
How to use it
- Set the tempo in beats per minute, or tap it out on the tap button.
- Choose how many beats are in a bar — 4 for most music, 3 for a waltz.
- Practise a difficult passage slowly, then raise the tempo a few beats at a time.
- Turn the accent off if you only want a plain pulse.
What tempo should I practise at?
Slow enough to play the passage perfectly. If you are making mistakes, the tempo is too high — drop it until it is clean, then raise it five beats at a time.
What do the Italian words mean?
They are traditional tempo markings, each covering a range of speeds: andante is a walking pace around 76–108, allegro is fast at 120–156. The name under the number tells you which range you are in.
Is it accurate?
Yes. Clicks are scheduled ahead on the audio clock rather than fired by a page timer, so the beat does not drift even if the page is busy.
